OUR SPACE

208 e. mill street

Picture
Right in the middle of historic Plymouth, WI, we are part of the downtown community.  If you have time, take a moment to see what else is going on in one of the shops on this street.

the space

Picture
My dad and I started working on the studio in September, 2013.  Somehow we made it through the dust, and the first classes successfully occurred on January 13, 2014.

I like to think I'm pretty easy going, but my meticulous side revealed itself in the making of this studio.  All decisions were made with the intention of providing a comfortable space for our yoga community.  All future decisions at Plymouth Yoga will carry that same intention.

the floors

Picture
Made of sustainably harvested cork, the floors provide a softness underfoot that gives a little more support to your practice.  Cork's resilient, thermal, and acoustical properties give warmth to the studio environment, while it's mold and mildew resistance keep the space healthy and safe.

Our floors were ordered and installed by Precision Floors and Decor, of Plymouth, WI.

To learn more about harvesting cork from the beautiful cork oak trees, watch this video.

And if that left you wanting more, watch this clip

the walls

Picture
The paint used on these walls has a zero VOC base, which means there should be no chemicals leeching into the air of the studio: so breathe deeply!

The base of the studio space was painted by Schwaller 's Painting and Staining, of Elkhart Lake, who emphasize their use in responsible  environmental practices.

I added the other little embellishments myself, for a more personal touch.

the lighting

Picture
Ecomanity (Elkhart Lake) performed an electrical energy assessment on my building to note where we can save on energy usage.  They work with Wisconsin's Focus on Energy program and a local electrician to upgrade poor fixtures, and replace incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent, and upgrade exit signs.  Because Ecomanity works with state programming they can set all of this up for a small fraction of the cost of doing it yourself.

I opted for LED lighting in the practice space--dimmed lights are perfect for savasana.

everything else

Picture
I strive to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, so much of what is in the building was once something somewhere else.  Many things, (doors, hardware, sinks, lighting fixtures, trim, etc.) were purchased from the Habitat for Humanity Restore.  Other things (glass blocks) were found on craigslist. And some of it was just lying around (countertops, wood and curtains for the dividing screen).  Sometimes it just takes a moment to realize what we already have, and be grateful for it.
Thank you, and enjoy!
